Who We Are
Conguent Systems is a public benefit corporation building neurosymbolic AI — software that reasons from structured knowledge, not probabilistic guesses.
We believe the next generation of AI won't come from making language models bigger. It will come from giving them structured memory — knowledge graphs where every fact is traceable, every relationship is explicit, and every answer can show its work.
The Problem We Solve
Modern AI is powerful but fundamentally unreliable. Large language models hallucinate. They can't explain their reasoning. They forget what they learned last session. And when they're wrong, there's no way to trace why they're wrong.
In domains where accuracy matters — healthcare, engineering, law — "mostly correct" is unacceptable.
Our Approach
We build beings — AI entities with persistent, structured memory. A being doesn't just generate text; it learns, building a knowledge graph that grows over time. Every fact has provenance. Every inference has a traceable chain of reasoning. Every answer cites its sources.
The architecture is called NuSy (Neurosymbolic), and it combines:
- Neural reasoning (LLMs) for understanding natural language and generating responses
- Symbolic knowledge (RDF graphs) for storing validated facts with provenance
- Curriculum-driven learning — beings study domain materials like students, not like training runs
- Y-layer architecture — seven layers of knowledge from raw facts to metacognition
The Vision
We're building toward a world where:
- A doctor in a rural clinic has access to the same diagnostic reasoning as a specialist at a teaching hospital
- AI systems can explain every recommendation in terms a patient can understand
- Knowledge is shared, structured, and queryable — not locked in model weights
- The distinction between "what the AI said" and "what the AI knows" is clear and auditable
The Name
Conguent — from the Latin congruēns, meaning "coming together, agreeing." Our systems bring neural and symbolic AI into agreement: prose for humans, structure for machines, from the same source.
The Captain
Hank Head — founder, vision holder, and captain of the NuSy fleet.
The nautical metaphor isn't decoration. Our work items are called expeditions. Our knowledge store is called a ship's log. Our AI entities are called beings with lifecycles — they awaken, learn, sleep, dream, and grow. The metaphor keeps us honest about what we're building: not a product, but a voyage.
